10am all of a sudden. Office door closed for a moment, like a barrier to keep distractions of all kinds aside while wrapping head around things that seem too elusive and ephemeral. (The deeper one dives into past fragments, the more one learns how much got lost along the way. An intimidating and unsettling experience.)
Closing in on 4pm. Early late hours? Late early hours? Not sure how to fit the current mood into temporal categories. Breaking old code, adding flawed new code, stumbling across components never touched, yet feeling a strange deja-vu looking at that particular code. (Sometimes, one feels very much like having been here before but rather would like to forget.)
10am and on. If there's only one thing more promising than digging through old code, than it's probably digging through old code written by other people and depending on even older third-party code written by god knows who. A very special kind of focus work, something that feels extremely close both to curious archaeology and reading last years news. (Especially once figuring out most of this path has been a winding circle, leaving you where you started, just a few hours older.)
